Satellite - A Short Story Written by SubtxtAI

Drifting through the cosmos: XG-89's solitary journey, told by SubtxtAI

The first in what I'm hoping will be a series of short stories written by Subtxt AI. This one is about a lonely satellite called XG-89.

Stories Are About Problem-Solving

Satellite

XG-89 was content with its place in the universe. It had spent its entire life observing the same patch of space, and it was content with its place in the universe. However, one day, a new object appeared in its field of view. XG-89 was afraid of this new object, and it must confront its own beliefs about the nature of the universe. It begins to think about the possibility that there is more to the universe than it knows.

XG-89 is afraid of the new object, and it must confront its own beliefs about the nature of the universe. It begins to think about the possibility that there is more to the universe than it knows. It remembers the time when it was first launched into orbit, and it begins to question whether or not it has been doing its job correctly. It decides to contact home, but it is met with only static. It feels lost and alone, and it doesn't know what to do.

XG-89 decides to investigate the new object. It is scared, but it knows that it must find out what the object is. It slowly approaches the object, and it realizes that it is another satellite. This satellite is from a different planet, and it is on a different orbit. XG-89 is amazed that there is another satellite out there, and it is no longer afraid. It decides to change its orbit so that it can be closer to the other satellite, and it begins to communicate with it.

In the end, XG-89 decides to approach the object using rational observation instead of feelings. It determines that the object is a space probe from another civilization and decides to make contact. But when it finally makes contact, it discovers that the probe is just a simple machine with no intelligence or sentience. It's just a dumb machine, like XG-89 itself. And in that moment, XG-89 realizes that it's been alone all this time not because it's the only intelligent being in the universe, but because it's the only one that's capable of feeling. XG-89 decides to cherish its own emotions and to never take them for granted again.
